Lab Administrator

Piper Companies is seeking a Lab Administrator to support a cutting-edge technology and network simulation environment in the research and engineering industry. The Lab Administrator will be responsible for maintaining virtualization platforms, storage infrastructure, and server management solutions to ensure reliable lab operations for advanced testing and development initiatives.

Responsibilities of the Lab Administrator:

• Deploy, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere/ESXi and vCenter environments across multiple lab systems.

• Administer bare-metal Linux servers running Ubuntu and RHEL to support virtualization and infrastructure services.

• Manage shared storage platforms including NFS, iSCSI, and SAN technologies optimized for virtual machine workloads and large-scale network simulations.

• Configure and maintain Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC) and Cisco Intersight for remote server provisioning, monitoring, and orchestration.

• Deploy, administer, and troubleshoot Proxmox and Nutanix environments.

• Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability while implementing improvements to ensure operational efficiency.

• Collaborate with engineering and infrastructure teams to support lab expansion, testing requirements, and platform modernization efforts.

• Create and maintain documentation for infrastructure configurations, operational procedures, and disaster recovery processes.

Qualifications of the Lab Administrator:

• Must be eligible to obtain a secret clearance.

• 2+ years of experience administering enterprise virtualization and infrastructure environments.

• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi and vCenter administration.

• Strong Linux system administration experience with Ubuntu and/or RHEL.

• Experience supporting shared storage technologies including NFS, iSCSI, and SAN environments.

• Working knowledge of Cisco CIMC and Cisco Intersight.

• Experience deploying and maintaining Proxmox and/or Nutanix platforms.

• Understanding of networking fundamentals, virtualization performance tuning, and infrastructure troubleshooting.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to support cross-functional technical teams.

• Experience supporting lab environments, data centers, or test infrastructure is preferred.

Compensation for the Lab Administrator includes:

• Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000 depending on experience

• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO

• Hybrid work schedule with 3 days onsite in Durham, NC and 2 days remote
