Splunk Engineer (Consultant)

Piper Companies is hiring a Splunk Engineer (Consultant) for an onsite 6 month contract position with a global technology leader located in Oaktown, VA. The Splunk Engineer (Consultant) will lead efforts to operationalize network insights, build custom dashboards, and enhance alerting and monitoring capabilities while mentoring junior staff and supporting backend infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities of the Splunk Engineer (Consultant):

• Develop and maintain custom dashboards and alerts in Splunk to support real-time network monitoring and incident escalation.
• Analyze network traffic and logs to identify anomalies, threats, and performance issues.
• Mentor junior team members on Splunk usage and traffic analysis techniques.
• Document monitoring configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and monthly findings.
• Support backend improvements to Splunk infrastructure and ensure operational efficiency.

Qualifications of the Splunk Engineer (Consultant):

• Active TS/SCI clearance with availability for full-time onsite work.
• Strong experience with Splunk, including dashboard creation, alert tuning, and log analysis.
• Familiarity with network traffic analysis and packet capture (PCAP) review.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as ExtraHop and SolarWinds.
• Ability to document technical processes and mentor junior staff effectively.

Compensation for the Splunk Engineer (Consultant):

• Salary: $187,000-$200,000/year
