Database Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a highly skilled Database Engineer to join the corporate division of a leading healthcare organization based in Columbia, MD. This full-time, expert-level role follows a hybrid schedule (2 days onsite) and focuses on enterprise-level database architecture, security, and ETL development to support critical business operations.

Responsibilities of the Database Engineer Include:

• Design and implement scalable, secure database solutions.
• Optimize ETL processes and support BI/data warehousing.
• Collaborate across teams to align database strategies with business needs.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and conduct root cause analysis.
• Define and enforce data security standards.
• Mentor DBA team members and contribute to project delivery.
• Maintain documentation and engage in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications of the Database Engineer Include:

Required:

• 10–12 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016–2019).
• Strong TSQL, PowerShell, and SSIS/DTS skills.
• Experience with high availability (AlwaysOn, replication).
• Proficiency in Power BI and Windows Server.
• Strong analytical, communication, and customer service skills.

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Experience with Azure SQL, data protection tools (CommVault, Rubrik, Veeam), and HIPAA-compliant data.
• Familiarity with VMware, Active Directory, and enterprise storage (Cisco, NetApp, Pure Storage).
• Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and ITIL processes.
• Active Directory experience.
• Familiarity with server and storage hardware (Cisco, NetApp, Pure Storage).
• Experience using RDBMS constructs and OS authentication for access provisioning.

Compensation of the Database Engineer Includes:

• Salary Range: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
