Database Engineer

Piper Enterprise Solutions is looking for a Database Engineer to join a team responsible for the design and implementation of highly complex, enterprise-level data security, database architecture, and ETL solutions. This is a hybrid (2-3x/week) role located in Columbia, MD.

Requirements of the Database Engineer:

• Lead database architecture and development, ensuring efficient data storage, retrieval, and flow across systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams and vendors.
• Support cloud initiatives by provisioning, migrating, and optimizing database environments for performance, scalability and cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure system reliance through disaster recovery planning, high availability strategies, and proactive monitoring of database health and performance.
• Strengthen data security by identifying vulnerabilities and implementing encryption, obfuscation, and compliance standards.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes to support BI efforts, while documenting procedures and continuously improving technical skills.

Qualifications of the Database Engineer:

• 10+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration, including database design, implementation, and performance tuning using advanced T-SQL.
• Proficiency in on-prem and cloud-based databased environments, especially Microsoft Azure SQL, with hands-on experience in high availability solutions (e.g. AlwaysOn and replication).
• Skilled in automation and scripting (PowerShell), and familiar with DevOps, Agile, and ITIL methodologies.
• Strong background in data protection and compliance , including encryption, obfuscation, and working with HIPAA-regulated data.
• Experience with enterprise infrastructure, including storage systems (Cisco, NetApp, Pure Storage), virtualization (VMware), and Windows Server environments.
• Knowledgeable in ETL processes and data warehousing, with preferred experience in SSIS/DTS, large datasets, and Power BI.
• Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Compensation of the Database Engineer:

• Salary range: $140,000-$160,000 *based on experience*
