Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (DevOps) to lead the design, implementation, and operations of a biotechnology company’s high-availability enterprise infrastructure. This role is hybrid in Durham, NC. 

Responsibilities for the Senior Infrastructure Engineer include: 

• Architect, deploy, and manage scalable infrastructure solutions across datacenter, cloud, and network platforms. 
• Design and implement automation and orchestration for infrastructure provisioning and operations. 
• Ensure systems meet validation and compliance standards (e.g., FDA, HIPAA). 
• Monitor and optimize performance, capacity, uptime, and security across all infrastructure layers. 
• Lead migration of legacy systems to modern cloud platforms. 
• Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation, monitoring, and alerting systems. 
• Support incident, problem, change, and knowledge management processes. 
• Collaborate with MSPs and internal teams to troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues. 
• Participate in on-call rotations and change management duties. 

Qualifications for the Senior Infrastructure Engineer include: 

• Associate’s degree with 7+ years or Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years in enterprise infrastructure engineering. 
• 2+ years of hands-on experience implementing infrastructure solutions leveraging AWS, Azure, or GCP. (Azure is strongly preferred.)
• Experience in biotech/pharma/life sciences IT environments is strongly preferred. 
• Strong knowledge of data platforms (Databricks, SQL Server, Data Lakes, Snowflake). 
• Proficient in Python, SQL, and CI/CD pipelines. 
• Experience with automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet). 
• Skilled in scripting (PowerShell, Python, Java, etc.). 
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (FDA 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA/HITECH) is a plus. 

Compensation for the Senior Infrastructure Engineer includes: 

• Salary range: $130,000 - $180,000 annually, commensurate with experience
