Senior Systems Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer, to support a leading cybersecurity company that provides tools for secure network monitoring and defense, mainly for government and military clients. The Senior Systems Engineer will design, build, and maintain secure, integrated systems using open-source tools and custom Python development, supporting complex infrastructure for government and enterprise environments.

Responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer include:

• Architect and deploy complex open-source solutions in production environments, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts across hardware, software, and network layers, resolving critical issues in Linux-based systems.
• Develop and maintain automation workflows using Ansible and Python, supporting infrastructure as code and system reliability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, guiding junior engineers and ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
• Translate system requirements into integrated solutions, leveraging deep knowledge of systems integration across hardware, software, and networking.
• Support secure infrastructure operations, including occasional onsite hardware maintenance at Phoenix-area data centers and compliance with security clearance requirements.

Qualifications for the Senior Systems Engineer include:  

• Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve complex problems without needing detailed guidance.
• Extensive experience in Python or other object-oriented programming languages, with at least 7 years of hands-on development in production environments.
• Deep understanding of Linux systems engineering, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting across major distributions.
• Strong background in deploying and managing open-source tools, with a focus on performance, scalability, and security in enterprise environments.
• Eligible for U.S. government security clearance, with preference for candidates holding an active Secret or higher clearance and willingness to travel occasionally to Phoenix-area data centers.

Compensation for the Senior Systems Engineer include:

• Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 
• Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave as required by law, and Holidays
