Network Engineer

Piper Companies is hiring a Network Engineer for a Clinical Research Company located in Durham, NC. The Network Engineer will need a deep foundation in enterprise networking technologies and a passion for building secure, scalable infrastructure. The Network Engineer will need to sit on site in Durham, NC two days per week and is a contract to hire opportunity.

Responsibilities of the Network Engineer:

• Design, configure, and maintain secure network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and VPNs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues across a distributed environment.
• Manage and support cloud networking solutions (Azure, AWS, or similar).
• Provide desktop support and assist with network-related escalations.
• Administer and optimize VoIP systems (experience with Dialpad or similar platforms preferred).
• Perform rack-and-stack installations, connect firewalls and switches, and ensure proper cabling and hardware setup.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to implement new systems and technologies (Cisco, Juniper, etc.).
• Document network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps for scalability and knowledge sharing.
• Explore automation opportunities using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, or similar).

Requirements of the Network Engineer:

• 5+ years of experience in network administration or engineering, preferably in a multi-site environment.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking concepts and VPN troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with routing, switching, and firewall configuration.
• Familiarity with Cisco and Juniper technologies; ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF).
• Experience supporting VoIP solutions and ensuring call quality.

Compensation of the Network Engineer:

• $120,000 - $150,000 base salary
