Piper Companies is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Metrology Technician to own and execute metrology activities in Raleigh, NC. This role ensures an audit-ready metrology program supporting clinical and commercial manufacturing. The position is both hands-on and strategic, requiring deep metrology expertise, technical leadership, and cross-functional collaboration.


Key Responsibilities of the Metrology Technician:

  • Execute GMP instrumentation maintenance and calibration activities not performed by end users.
  • Perform calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation per SOPs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with cGMPs, documentation practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support equipment owners with calibration specifications, problem-solving, and failure investigations.
  • Drive improvements in calibration methods, standards, and specifications.
  • Manage documentation changes for calibration-related SOPs and vendor records.
  • Participate in on-call rotation; occasional nights/weekends required for facility support.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and collaborate with Facilities team.
  • Interface with external customers and regulatory agencies during audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and workplace safety measures.


Qualifications of the Metrology Specialist:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Science or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical calibrations/metrology or other regulated industries.
  • Strong knowledge of cGMP, OSHA, EPA regulations and GMP quality systems.
  • Expertise in metrology principles, instrumentation theory, and calibration methods.
  • Experience with CMMS and supervising external calibration vendors.
  • Familiarity with PLC, HVAC, and Building Monitoring Systems a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
