Director of Software Development

Piper Companies is looking for a highly technical Director of Software Development to join a leading healthcare organization in the Greater Baltimore area. This fulltime, hybrid role reports directly to the CTO.

This Director will lead software engineering, managing both modern .NET applications and PowerBuilder legacy systems while driving a strategic modernization roadmap.

Responsibilities of the Director of Software Development Include:

• Provide vision and leadership for development teams; align initiatives with business goals.
• Oversee .NET and PowerBuilder projects, balancing legacy support with digital transformation.
• Build and mentor high-performing teams; foster innovation and accountability.
• Manage project delivery, KPIs, and stakeholder communication.
• Guide architecture, enforce coding standards, and lead modernization efforts.
• Collaborate across QA, DevOps, Security, and business units.

Qualifications of the Director of Software Development Include:

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 10+ years in software development, 5+ in leadership.
• Expertise in .NET (C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core) and working knowledge of PowerBuilder.
• Experience with SDLC, DevOps, CI/CD, and modernization projects.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Preferred: Azure/AWS experience, SaaS/HRTech background, PMP/CSM certifications.

Compensation of the Director of Software Development Includes:

• Salary Range: $180,000.00 - $220,000.00 per year, based on experience and certifications
• 15% annual bonus eligibility
