Job Summary
Piper Companies is seeking a Network Engineer to join our team on-site in Columbia, MD. The Network Engineer II is responsible for designing, configuring, and implementing core components of the company’s enterprise data and voice networks. Acting as a technical consultant on multiple project teams, this role ensures timely delivery of networking and unified communications (UC) solutions that meet organizational needs. The Network Engineer II serves as the resident technical expert in the network domain.
Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and implement large-scale enterprise network and unified communications solutions.
- Collaborate with project teams to refine requirements and deliver networking/UC solutions on time.
- Provide Tier-3 technical support for network and UC issues with a strong customer service focus.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical design documentation for proposed and implemented solutions.
- Assist Solutions Architects in evaluating new technologies and vendor selection.
- Support Network and UC Operations Teams by ensuring smooth service transitions and process development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and supporting large enterprise network environments, including LAN/WAN design and implementation.
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or CWNA preferred.
- Expertise in network security technologies (e.g., Cisco Sourcefire IDPS, FTD; Zscaler; Cisco ISE; Palo Alto NGFWs; Meraki; Cisco ACI; SilverPeak SD-WAN).
- Advanced knowledge of IP routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF) and TCP/IP network protocols.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches (6500/4500/Nexus series) and enterprise WAN/Internet circuit configuration.
- Proficiency with network analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) and performance troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to create and present network architecture diagrams to all levels of leadership.
Compensation:
- Pay Range: $115,000-$125,000
