Zachry Piper Solutions is seeking a Database Engineer to join the Data Services team. The Database Engineer – Azure Cloud is responsible The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and implementation of highly complex, enterprise-level data security, database architecture, and ETL solutions to meet business specifications and needs.




Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical expertise for database architecture, design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to analyze business and IT requirements to help form IT strategies in the database layer. Includes working with vendors, other IT teams and Leadership in reviewing design and budget requirements.

·      Analyze issues holistically, from the application tier through the database, down to the storage.

·      Provide recommendations on new database technologies and architecture.

·      Assist in Maxim’s cloud initiatives, including provisioning and migrations.

·      Plan and implement strategies for physical disaster, data recovery procedures and contingency planning.

  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and observability of database systems through building and enhancing database solutions.
  • Identify documentation needs, author documents and guidelines for tasks/projects as well as update existing documents as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance bottlenecks, data corruption, and query optimization.
  • Identify gaps in database security, evaluate, define, and enforce standards for data security, including data obfuscation, encryption, and related technologies.

·      Create new or enhance existing ETL processes to support BI and data warehousing initiatives.

·      Performs other duties as assigned/necessary.

Regularly engages in continual learning on their own time for their continued professional development.




Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 - 12 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration, database architecture / design / implementation required.
  • Strong, extensive experience with Microsoft SQL Server (and associated technologies) required, including ability to write, troubleshoot, and optimize complex TSQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Experience supporting and working with Software Development Lifecycle (Agile, SCRUM, DevOps), Project Management Lifecycle, and IT Service Management (ITIL) processes.
  • Experience with PowerShell Scripting/Programming required.
  • Experience with SQL Server high availability solutions, such as database replication and AlwaysOn Availability Groups required.
  • Knowledge of cloud database environment, especially Microsoft Azure SQL Servers and databases required.
  • Experience with data protection tools such as encryption and obfuscation preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL data protection platforms (such as CommVault, Rubrik, Veeam) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with server and storage hardware (Cisco, NetApp, Pure Storage) preferred.
  • Experience working with protected health information or HIPAA complaint data preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems required.
  • Experience with VMware administration strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with Active Directory preferred.
  • Experience working with large datasets, data warehousing, ETL processes and tools, DTS/SSIS packages strongly preferred.
  • Microsoft PowerBI experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Positive, self-motivated individual who can complete tasks independently.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Power BI for data visualization.
  • Familiarity with Azure Machine Learning and advanced analytics.
  • Understanding of data governance frameworks and metadata management.


Additional Requirements:

  • Must reside in the Columbia, MD area for occasional travel to office or customer site.



Compensation:

·      Salary Range: $135,000 - $145,000 (depending on experience).

·      Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave, and Holidays. (As required by law)
