Lead Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Lead Engineer to support an organization within the insurance and annuities industry. The Lead Engineer role is ideal for a strong full‑stack developer with deep experience in Node.js, AWS, and React, and a background supporting internal IT and business groups.

Responsibilities of the Lead Engineer:

• Design, develop, and maintain full‑stack applications using Node.js, AWS services, and React.

• Serve as a technical lead on key initiatives, providing architectural guidance and hands‑on development.

• Collaborate closely with internal IT teams and business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable solutions.

• Ensure best practices in code quality, cloud infrastructure, and application performance.

• Support production systems, troubleshoot issues, and guide junior engineers as needed.

Qualifications of the Lead Engineer:

• 5–8 years of full‑stack engineering experience.

• Strong proficiency with Node.js, React, and AWS cloud services.

• Experience supporting internal, enterprise‑level IT and business groups.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, modern DevOps practices, and cloud‑native architectures.

• Ability to work in a hybrid setting and collaborate effectively in both onsite and remote environments.

Compensation for the Lead Engineer includes:

• Salary range: $115,000 – $130,000 depending on experience

• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO

• Hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite weekly in Durham, NC
