Network Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to support a hybrid enterprise environment for a large organization. The Network Engineer will design, secure, and maintain critical network infrastructure with a focus on firewall management, secure access technologies, and modern zero-trust principles. This position will be hybrid in Rockville, MD (3 days per week onsite).

Responsibilities of the Network Engineer include:

• Configure, manage, and optimize Palo Alto Networks firewalls and Panorama

• Support and administer Zscaler platforms (ZIA and/or ZPA) for secure cloud access

• Maintain and troubleshoot Cisco networking and security infrastructure

• Manage core networking services including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF)

• Troubleshoot SSL/TLS, PKI, and traffic decryption issues

• Support hybrid enterprise environments with a focus on security and availability

• Assist with network modernization initiatives and zero trust deployments

• Work cross-functionally with security, cloud, and operations teams to troubleshoot complex issues

• Ensure network configurations follow compliance, security, and governance standards

• Provide documentation, diagrams, and operational guidance as needed

Required Qualifications for the Network Engineer:

• 5+ years of experience in network security or infrastructure engineering

• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama

• Strong experience with Zscaler ZIA and/or ZPA

• Experience supporting Cisco networking/security platforms

• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, BGP, OSPF

• Knowledge of SSL/TLS, PKI, and decryption technologies

• Experience supporting hybrid enterprise or regulated environments

• Eligible for and willing to obtain a Public Trust clearance

Preferred Skills:

• Certifications such as PCNSE/PCNSA, Zscaler ZCCA-IA or ZCCA-PA, Cisco CCNP, or Security+

• Experience with Zero Trust architecture

• Cloud networking/security experience (Azure or AWS)

• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or APIs

• Experience with SIEM tools (Splunk or similar)
