Piper Companies is seeking a Backend Engineer to join a growing engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and operate cloud-native services that power core components of the platform. You will work closely with product, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable systems that support mission-critical workloads.
This is a direct hire hands-on role for an engineer who thrives in modern distributed systems, enjoys working with Kubernetes-based architectures, and wants to have meaningful impact in a fast-moving, innovative environment.
Role is onsite in Boston, MA 4x per week.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement backend services written primarily in TypeScript
- Build and maintain containerized applications deployed on Kubernetes
- Collaborate with platform and DevOps teams to improve reliability, scalability, and performance
- Develop APIs, event-driven services, and integrations with external systems
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
- Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvement in system architecture
- Work in an agile, cross-functional environment alongside product and AI teams
Qualifications:
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Familiarity with event-driven systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub, SQS, etc.)
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CDK, or similar)
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
- Exposure to AI/ML systems, data platforms, or real-time analytics (a plus)
- Bachelors degree required
Compensation:
- Pay Rate: $170,000-$210,000 depending on experience
