Security Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Security Engineer to support a leading organization within the technology sector. The Security Engineer role is ideal for a cloud-focused security professional with strong experience in AWS security services, cloud architecture, and compliance frameworks. The Security Engineer role is a long term contract opportunity and required you to sit on site in Fulton, MD 2 days per week.

Responsibilities of the Security Engineer:

• Implement, manage, and optimize AWS security services including IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, and WAF.
• Design and maintain secure cloud architectures following industry best practices.
• Develop and enforce network security standards across VPCs, security groups, NACLs, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Ensure adherence to compliance frameworks such as STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, and NIST 800-53.
• Automate security processes using scripting and IaC tools such as Python, CloudFormation, and Terraform.
• Collaborate with engineering, cloud, and compliance teams to implement continuous security improvements.

Requirements of the Security Engineer:

• Hands-on experience with AWS security tools and services.
• Strong understanding of secure cloud architecture and AWS best practices.
• Proficiency in AWS networking concepts including VPCs, NACLs, security groups, VPNs, and firewalls.
• Experience with compliance and security hardening frameworks such as STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, and NIST 800-53.
• Proficiency with automation and scripting (Python, CloudFormation, Terraform).
• Preferred certifications: AWS Certified Security – Specialty, CISSP, or similar.

Compensation for the Security Engineer:

• $110,000-$115,000
• Full Comprehensive Benefits: Health, Vision, Dental, PTO, Paid Holiday and Sick Leave if Required by Law.
