Sr. Security Engineer (AWS)

Piper Companies is seeking a Sr. Security Engineer (AWS) to join an enterprise security team responsible for ensuring the protection, compliance, and hardened configuration of complex AWS cloud environments. The Sr. Security Engineer (AWS) will validate alignment with STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and NIST 800‑53 controls while proactively identifying vulnerabilities and driving remediation. This is a hybrid position requiring 2 days onsite per week in RTP, NC or Fulton, MD (NC preferred).

This position is only available for candidates who are authorized to work in the United States. This position may require in‑person interviews.

Responsibilities for the Sr. Security Engineer (AWS) include:

· Ensure AWS environments are securely and correctly configured according to industry best practices

· Validate compliance against STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and NIST 800‑53 controls

· Continuously monitor cloud environments for misconfigurations, vulnerabilities, and security gaps

· Create and manage remediation tickets for identified issues and track their resolution

· Lead meetings with stakeholders to review findings, configurations, and required corrective actions

· Collaborate with DevOps, IT, and Compliance teams to support secure cloud operations

· Automate security processes using scripting and cloud‑native tools

· Maintain detailed documentation of security policies, procedures, and configurations

· Stay current with AWS security best practices, compliance standards, and emerging threats

Requirements for the Sr. Security Engineer (AWS) include:

· Strong experience with AWS security services and secure cloud architecture

· Hands‑on experience with IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, WAF, and related security tools

· Proficiency in network security including VPC design, security groups, NACLs, VPNs, and firewalls

· Expertise in compliance frameworks such as STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and NIST 800‑53

· Experience with scripting and automation (Python, CloudFormation, Terraform)

· Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders

· Must be authorized to work in the United States

Compensation for the Sr. Security Engineer (AWS):

· $120,000–$122,000 annually

· Full comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, and sick leave as required by law
