Senior Azure Cloud Architect

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Architect to support a growing organization in the industrial technology and automation industry for a consulting engagement based onsite in Raleigh, NC. The Senior Azure Cloud Architect will guide the client through stabilizing, refining, and modernizing their cloud and IoT-facing infrastructure across multiple global regions.

Responsibilities of the Senior Azure Cloud Architect include:

· Evaluate the current Azure footprint—including data lake, cloud regions, and IoT integrations—to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities for modernization.

· Partner closely with onsite engineering teams to understand edge device workflows and recommend optimized cloud-side architecture.

· Develop improvements for cross‑regional reporting, telemetry management, and secure data movement between EU and US environments.

· Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define scalable patterns for future region expansions and ensure cloud systems can support growth.

· Provide consultative guidance to reorganize cloud‑related functions following recent team departures, offering strategic recommendations for long‑term IT structure.

Qualifications for the Senior Azure Cloud Architect include:

· Extensive hands‑on experience designing and managing Azure infrastructure, including multi‑region environments.

· Background supporting IoT ecosystems such as MQTT, REST APIs, edge compute workflows, and telemetry-heavy workloads.

· Strong understanding of cloud networking, security, data ingestion pipelines, and monitoring tools within Microsoft’s ecosystem.

· Ability to assess existing architectures and deliver actionable improvement strategies to technical and non‑technical teams.

· Experience in hybrid roles requiring onsite collaboration, especially where physical devices or machinery interface with cloud systems.

Compensation for the Senior Azure Cloud Architect:

Salary Range: $220,000-$260,000/year
