Piper Companies is seeking an Automation Engineer II to support a growing organization within the biotechnology and advanced therapies industry based out of Pittsburgh, PA. The Automation Engineer II will serve as a key contributor in overseeing facility control and automation platforms that enable critical manufacturing and research operations.
Responsibilities of the Automation Engineer II include:
· Oversee automation and controls initiatives from design through implementation while maintaining systems in a validated and compliant state
· Collaborate closely with Facilities, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to support daily activities and project goals
· Diagnose and resolve issues related to facility controls, manufacturing automation, and supporting infrastructure to enhance system reliability and operational performance
· Develop, configure, and maintain automation applications, along with associated documentation, SOPs, and training materials
· Lead efforts related to system lifecycle management, quality investigations, corrective actions, and coordination of external automation vendors
Qualifications for the Automation Engineer II include:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Scientific discipline, or related technical field
· 6+ years of experience within a regulated life sciences setting with strong understanding of FDA and pharmaceutical regulatory expectations
· 4+ years of hands-on experience connecting equipment and automation systems using OPC, Ethernet/IP, or similar industrial communication protocols
· Proficiency with PLCs (Allen Bradley/Siemens), SCADA platforms, batch automation concepts, data historians, and facility control systems such as BMS/BAS
· Strong familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, GAMP5, and experience working in controlled production environments (aseptic experience preferred)
Compensation for the Automation Engineer II:
Salary Range: $100,000-$120,000/year (USD)
