Piper Companies is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a specialized security monitoring and engineering team within the government technology industry. The Systems Engineer role is ideal for an engineer experienced in Linux-based environments, automation, Python development, and supporting custom-built security and detection tooling. The Systems Engineer is a long term contract opportunity.


Responsibilities of the Systems Engineer:

  • Design, implement, and support CentOS and other Linux-based systems across custom engineering and monitoring environments.
  • Develop automation using Python and related scripting tools to improve system performance, consistency, and scalability.
  • Support and enhance infrastructure supporting security monitoring, endpoint detection, and custom SOC tooling.
  • Collaborate with engineering and analyst teams to integrate system improvements within lab and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across servers, endpoints, and networked systems while driving long-term stability.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and platform enhancements for dynamic customer requirements.


Requirements of the Systems Engineer:

  • Strong hands-on experience with CentOS or other enterprise Linux distributions.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting and automation frameworks.
  • Experience supporting engineering, SOC, or custom detection tooling environments is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system integrations involving servers, endpoints, or network components.


Compensation for the Systems Engineer:

  • $130,000-$155,000
  • Full Comprehensive Benefits: Health, Vision, Dental, PTO, Paid Holiday and Sick Leave if Required by Law.
