Piper Companies is seeking an Automation Engineer II to join a growing organization within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing space for an on‑site permanent position based out of Pittsburgh PA. The Automation Engineer II will serve as a hands‑on owner of manufacturing and facilities automation systems, supporting daily operations, compliance, and system reliability in a regulated production environment.
Responsibilities of the Automation Engineer II include:
· Own and support site automation and facility control systems, ensuring reliable and compliant operation throughout the system lifecycle.
· Provide hands‑on troubleshooting and technical escalation for shop floor automation, PLCs, SCADA, Ignition, and related manufacturing systems.
· Partner closely with Manufacturing, Facilities, Engineering, Quality, and Validation teams to support operational needs and continuous improvement efforts.
· Lead automation support for investigations, CAPAs, and quality events while maintaining inspection‑ready systems.
· Manage automation documentation, SOPs, system maintenance activities, vendor support, and user training.
Qualifications for the Automation Engineer II include:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
· Approximately 5+ years of experience supporting automation systems in a regulated manufacturing environment (pharma, biotech, or life sciences).
· Strong hands‑on experience with PLCs, SCADA platforms, and Ignition in an operational manufacturing setting.
· Working knowledge of BAS/BMS systems, with Siemens‑based platforms strongly preferred.
· Solid understanding of 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity principles, validation practices, and cGMP requirements.
Compensation for the Automation Engineer II:
Salary Range: $140,000–$150,000/year (USD) + 15% bonus
