Piper Companies is seeking a Project Wastewater Engineer for an onsite contract role supporting a large‑scale industrial manufacturing facility in Clayton, NC. This engagement is expected to run through mid‑2028, offering strong long‑term project stability. The role will support the execution and commissioning of a complex industrial water and wastewater reuse capital project within a highly regulated environment.


This engineer will be embedded with the site team during peak construction, commissioning, and startup phases, providing hands‑on technical support and partnering closely with internal engineering, EPCM teams, and equipment vendors.


Responsibilities of the Project Wastewater Engineer:

  • Provide hands‑on project and technical engineering support for an active industrial wastewater and water reuse capital project during construction and startup.
  • Review and provide technical input on key engineering deliverables, including:
    • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
    • P&IDs
    • Equipment specifications and data sheets
    • Vendor drawings and technical submittals
  • Support field execution through onsite coordination, system walkdowns, RFI resolution, and verification of installed equipment and systems.
  • Work closely with EPCM partners, equipment vendors, and site operations teams to resolve technical issues and maintain alignment with project requirements.
  • Assist with commissioning, startup activities, system turnover to operations, and development of punch lists and close‑out documentation.

Qualifications of the Project Wastewater Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting industrial wastewater treatment, water reuse, or process utility systems.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting capital projects through design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Working knowledge of biological treatment processes, membrane technologies, and advanced industrial wastewater systems.
  • Ability to work effectively onsite in an active, regulated manufacturing and brownfield construction environment.


Compensation for the Project Wastewater Engineer:

  • Salary Range: $175,000 – $200,000 per year
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), and sick leave as required by law
