Security Systems Engineer (Linux)

Piper Companies is seeking a Security Systems Administrator (Linux) who has experience working in a Security Operations Center (SOC) environment within a regulated, enterprise technology industry. The Security Systems Administrator (Linux) role is ideal for a hands-on Linux systems administrator with deep command-line expertise, strong security fundamentals, and experience supporting large-scale virtualized environments.

Responsibilities of the Security Systems Administrator (Linux):

• Administer, harden, and support Linux-based systems within a SOC environment, with a strong emphasis on command-line operations.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, and respond to security-related system events in partnership with security monitoring and incident response teams.

• Support and maintain VMware-based virtual infrastructure, including provisioning, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.

• Develop and support integrations using RESTful API calls to connect security tools, platforms, and internal systems.

• Perform system patching, upgrades, configuration management, and ongoing system health checks.

• Assist with automation and scripting to improve system reliability, monitoring, and operational efficiency.

• Document system configurations, procedures, and security controls to support audits and compliance requirements.

Qualifications of the Security Systems Administrator (Linux):

• 5+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator in a SOC environment.

• Heavy, hands-on experience working at the Linux command line (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar).

• Strong understanding of system security, access controls, logging, and monitoring concepts.

• Experience working with VMware virtualization technologies in production environments.

• Hands-on experience making and supporting API calls (REST, JSON, authentication methods).

• Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash or Python for automation and troubleshooting.

Compensation for the Security Systems Administrator (Linux) includes:

• Salary range: $130,000 – $150,000 depending on experience
