Systems Security Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Systems Security Engineer for a world leading technology organization within the cybersecurity and enterprise infrastructure industry. The Systems Security Engineer role is a fully remote position supporting a Security Operations Center (SOC). The Systems Security Engineer will focus on designing, building, and maintaining a secure Linux-based monitoring and detection solution that enables SOC visibility, alerting, and incident response. An ideal candidate for the Systems Security Engineer role is a Linux systems engineer with strong security fundamentals and hands-on experience engineering monitoring platforms for SOC environments.

Responsibilities of the Systems Security Engineer:

• Design, build, and maintain a secure monitoring and logging solution to support SOC detection and response operations.

• Engineer and administer Linux-based systems responsible for collecting, processing, and forwarding system, application, and security telemetry.

• Implement robust logging, auditing, and metrics collection to enable real-time monitoring and forensic analysis.

• Harden Linux systems supporting SOC monitoring infrastructure in alignment with security and compliance best practices.

• Develop automation and scripting to improve data ingestion reliability, alert fidelity, and operational efficiency.

• Collaborate closely with SOC analysts and security engineers to tune monitoring, enhance visibility, and reduce false positives.

• Troubleshoot performance, scalability, availability, and security issues across monitoring and logging pipelines.

Qualifications of the Systems Security Engineer:

• 4+ years of experience in Linux systems administration or systems engineering roles.

• Strong hands-on experience building, operating, and securing Linux-based monitoring or logging platforms.

• Experience supporting SOC operations or integrating monitoring solutions with SIEM and security detection tools.

• Deep understanding of Linux logging, auditing, system telemetry, and access control concepts.

• Proficiency with scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or similar languages.

• Strong knowledge of system security, secure configuration standards, and vulnerability remediation.

• Experience operating in distributed, high-availability, or security-sensitive environments preferred.

Compensation for the Systems Security Engineer includes:

• Salary range: $125,000 - $150,000
