Senior Controls Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join an innovative equipment manufacturer within the industrial automation and device engineering space for a permanent role based out of Raleigh, NC. The Senior Controls Engineer will play a key role as a technical owner, leading the controls architecture and software development for advanced automated machinery within an R&D-focused organization.

Responsibilities of the Senior Controls Engineer include:

· Lead the design, development, and deployment of PLC-based control systems for high-speed automated equipment.

· Own controls architecture for a machine or subsystem, guiding software structure, standards, and best practices.

· Develop modular, reusable code using a mix of ladder logic and structured text within an object-oriented framework.

· Troubleshoot complex electrical and software issues at the panel and system level, both onsite and remotely.

· Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and scientific teams to take machines from concept through production.

Qualifications for the Senior Controls Engineer include:

· 5+ years of controls engineering experience supporting industrial machinery or device-based systems.

· Hands-on experience beyond ladder logic, including structured text and object-oriented PLC design.

· Experience using source control tools such as Git in a collaborative development environment.

· Exposure to multiple PLC platforms beyond Allen-Bradley (e.g., Beckhoff, Codesys, Siemens).

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Compensation for the Senior Controls Engineer:

Salary Range: $125,000-$145,000/year (USD) + 10% annual bonus
