Piper Companies is seeking a skilled Building Engineer to provide facilities and infrastructure support at a pharmaceutical partner site on a contract basis through the end of the year. This position is a hands-on role focused on ensuring building systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards within a controlled environment. This will be onsite in Silver Spring, MD.

 

Responsibilities for the Building Engineer include:

·      Monitoring, operating, and repairing building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical equipment, and building automation systems (BAS).

·      Conducting scheduled inspections, preventative maintenance tasks, and unscheduled repairs on essential facility infrastructure.

·      Responding quickly and professionally to service calls, system alerts, and emergency situations as they arise.

·      Working within both GMP and non‑GMP areas while adhering to established SOPs, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.

·      Partnering with external vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to support maintenance activities, inspections, and system upgrades.

·      Accurately documenting work activities, maintenance actions, and service requests through CMMS and maintenance logs.

·      Assisting with facility-related projects, planned shutdowns, and special initiatives as required.

 

Qualifications for the Building Engineer include:

·      Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Building Engineer or comparable facilities engineering role.

·      Solid hands-on knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

·      Previous experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory, or other regulated settings is strongly preferred.

·      Working familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and BAS platforms.

·      Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex building system issues independently.

·      Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.

·      EPA Universal Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.

·      Ability to work autonomously and provide on-call support when needed.

 

Compensation for the Building Engineer includes:

·      Salary range: $85,000 - $100,000

·      Comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, PTO, holidays, and sick leave as required by law.
