ServiceNow Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a ServiceNow Engineer to join a leading internet infrastructure and technology organization based in Reston, VA. The ServiceNow Engineer will support enterprise-wide ServiceNow initiatives focused on improving engineering productivity, platform performance, and operational efficiency across IT and business teams. This role will play a key part in designing, implementing, and optimizing ServiceNow solutions across ITSM, ITAM, ITOM, CMDB/CSDM, and related platform capabilities. This position will be hybrid in Reston, VA.

Responsibilities of the ServiceNow Engineer include:

• Support the overall architecture, strategy, and optimization of the ServiceNow platform
• Design, configure, and implement ServiceNow solutions across ITSM, ITAM, ITOM, CMDB/CSDM, and related modules
• Develop workflows, integrations, custom applications, and automation solutions within ServiceNow
• Configure and maintain integrations with external systems using REST/SOAP APIs, Integration Hub, and Spokes
• Assist with platform upgrades, patching, governance, and adherence to security and compliance standards
• Collaborate with IT, Engineering, Security, HR, Finance, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions
• Support Service Catalog, Employee Center, SecOps, GRC, HAM, and SAM initiatives as needed
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, process documentation, and knowledge base materials
• Recommend and implement ServiceNow best practices focused on platform health, optimization, and scalability
• Participate in Agile development activities including Scrum and Kanban workflows
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the ServiceNow ecosystem when needed
• Stay current on ServiceNow platform releases, capabilities, and emerging technologies

Qualifications for the ServiceNow Engineer include:

• 8+ years of hands-on ServiceNow engineering and platform development experience
• Strong experience with ServiceNow ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, CMDB/CSDM, and core platform administration
• Experience developing custom workflows, integrations, applications, and automation within ServiceNow
• Proficiency with JavaScript, Glide scripting, HTML, CSS, AngularJS, SASS, and Bootstrap
• Experience integrating ServiceNow with enterprise systems using REST/SOAP APIs and Integration Hub
• Experience supporting platform governance, upgrades, scalability, and enterprise implementations
• Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, and Kanban development methodologies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or related field preferred

Preferred Qualifications for the ServiceNow Engineer include:

• Experience with HAM, SAM, SecOps, GRC, Service Catalog, or Employee Center
• Experience with Perl or Python in a UNIX/Linux environment
• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)
• ServiceNow Certified Application Developer (CAD)
• ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist certifications
• ITIL v3/v4 certification
• Certified Technical Architect (CTA) certification

Compensation for the ServiceNow Engineer includes:

• Salary Range: $135,000 - $184,000 depending on experience
