Piper Companies is seeking a Director of Identity and Access Management (IAM) to support a global leader in internet infrastructure and security. This position is hybrid, requiring 2 days per week onsite in Reston, VA. The Director of IAM Engineering leads the strategy, architecture, engineering, delivery, and operations of Verisign’s enterprise IAM program. This role owns the IAM roadmap and ensures secure, scalable identity services across on‑premises, cloud, and SaaS environments.
This is a player‑coach leadership role, combining hands-on technical expertise with people management, vendor oversight, and executive communication.
Responsibilities for the Director of IAM:
- Lead the execution and continuous evolution of the enterprise IAM strategy, architecture, and roadmap, aligning with Verisign’s security, technology, and business objectives
- Direct the implementation, integration, operation, and continuous improvement of IAM platforms including PAM, IGA, access management, MFA, and related identity services
- Establish IAM architecture standards to enable secure, scalable integration across on‑premises, cloud, and SaaS environments
- Lead, mentor, and develop IAM engineering teams while ensuring strong execution across engineering, delivery, and operational support
- Manage IAM service operations, including on-call support and escalation coverage, to ensure reliable and resilient IAM services
- Partner with stakeholders across security, infrastructure, application, and business teams to deliver IAM solutions aligned to enterprise needs
- Support IAM governance processes, including identity lifecycle management, least‑privilege access, and access recertification
- Communicate IAM roadmap progress, service performance, risks, and program metrics to senior leadership; Deliver presentations and communications to drive stakeholder awareness, alignment, and adoption of IAM initiatives
- Manage IAM vendor relationships, technology evaluations, business cases, and support platform selection and procurement
Required Qualifications for the Director of IAM:
- 15+ years of experience in IAM, security engineering, or related technology roles
- 6+ years of people management experience leading technical or security teams
- Proven experience delivering enterprise IAM programs, platforms, and operations
- Deep hands-on expertise across IAM capabilities including PAM, IGA, access management, federation, and phishing‑resistant MFA
- Experience with enterprise IAM technologies such as SailPoint, Ping Identity, AWS IAM, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and BeyondTrust
- Strong experience integrating identity providers and enterprise applications using SAML, OAuth, OIDC, LDAP, and related standards
- Relevant certifications preferred, including CISSP, CISM, or IAM/PAM/cloud/security vendor certifications
