Senior Director of Information Security

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Director of Information Security to lead and mature the enterprise security program for a growing organization within the SaaS healthcare technology industry onsite in Chapel Hill, NC. The ideal Senior Director of Information Security will be responsible for setting the strategic vision for information security while partnering closely with executive leadership, technology teams, and business stakeholders to protect critical systems, data, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities of the Senior Director of Information Security:

• Define and execute the enterprise information security strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of security policies, standards, and governance frameworks.
• Oversee risk management, threat modeling, and vulnerability management across applications, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
• Direct incident response, security operations, and disaster recovery planning to ensure rapid detection and remediation of security events.
• Partner with engineering, IT, product, and compliance teams to embed security into system design and development lifecycles.
• Manage third-party and vendor security assessments, ensuring strong controls across the supply chain.
• Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare, privacy, and security regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2).
• Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing information security team, fostering a culture of security awareness and accountability.
• Report security posture, risk metrics, and program maturity to executive leadership and the board.

Qualifications of the Senior Director of Information Security:

• 10+ years of progressive experience in information security, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience building and leading enterprise security programs in regulated environments.
• Strong knowledge of cloud security, application security, network security, and identity and access management.
• Hands-on experience with security frameworks and standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, CIS, and SOC 2.
• Proven ability to communicate complex security concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience supporting audits, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and executive presence.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Information Systems, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Compensation for the Senior Director of Information Security includes:

• Salary range: $170,000 - $220,000 (depending on experience)
