Principal System Data Analyst

Piper Companies is seeking a Principal System Data Analyst to support an industry leader in financial services for a 6 month contract remote role. The Principal System Data Analyst role will be responsible for translating complex business needs into actionable technical requirements.

Responsibilities of the Principal System Data Analyst:

• Drive backlog creation, refinement, and prioritization to ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Analyze system dependencies, data flows, and integration points to identify risks and opportunities.
• Facilitate Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives.
• Partner with Product Owners, Architects, and Engineers to design scalable data solutions and system workflows.

Qualifications of the Principal System Data Analyst:

• 8+ years of experience in data analysis, system analysis, or business systems analysis within enterprise environments.
• Understanding of data platforms, data pipelines, and ETL/ELT processes (Informatica, Control-M, or similar tools).
• Experience working with data platforms such as Snowflake, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance considerations.
• Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and understanding of data architecture best practices.
• Expertise in Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), backlog grooming, sprint planning, and DevOps practices.
• Experience collaborating with engineering teams building backend services using Java, Python, and API-first architectures.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and familiarity with relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle).
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
