Piper Companies is seeking a Security Engineer to support a leading organization in the technology and government services industry. The Security Engineer will be responsible for ensuring AWS and Azure cloud environments are securely configured and aligned with security best practices, compliance frameworks, and organizational security requirements. This role is ideal for a security professional with expertise in cloud security, vulnerability management, compliance, and security automation.
Responsibilities of the Security Engineer:
• Ensure AWS and Azure cloud environments are configured securely and aligned with industry security best practices.
• Assess and remediate security vulnerabilities across cloud infrastructure, applications, and supporting services.
• Implement and maintain security controls aligned with STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, and NIST 800-53 requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, engineers, and cross-functional teams to strengthen cloud security posture and compliance efforts.
• Develop and maintain automation solutions for security monitoring, remediation, and compliance validation.
• Review cloud architectures and provide recommendations to improve security, resiliency, and operational effectiveness.
• Create and maintain security documentation, procedures, standards, and technical artifacts.
• Support ongoing audits, compliance initiatives, risk assessments, and secure cloud operations.
• Monitor emerging threats and security trends affecting cloud environments and recommend appropriate mitigations.
Qualifications of the Security Engineer:
• 5+ years of experience in information security, cybersecurity, or cloud security engineering.
• Hands-on experience securing AWS and/or Microsoft Azure environments.
• Strong knowledge of STIGs, CIS Benchmarks, NIST 800-53, and security compliance frameworks.
• Experience with vulnerability management, risk assessment, and remediation processes.
• Proficiency with cloud security tools, monitoring platforms, and security automation technologies.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM Templates, or similar).
• Knowledge of identity and access management, network security, encryption, and logging/monitoring best practices.
• Strong scripting or automation experience with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar technologies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, or Azure Security Engineer Associate are a plus.
Compensation for the Security Engineer includes:
• Salary range: $120,000 - $140,000 depending on experience
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO
• Hybrid work schedule with 2 days onsite per week in Durham, NC or Fulton, MD
