Piper Companies is seeking a FIPS Certification Engineer in Washington, DC to join a growing cybersecurity and networking technology organization focused on security certification, cryptographic validation, and regulatory compliance. The FIPS Certification Engineer will partner with senior security professionals to support certification initiatives for enterprise and government-facing products, ensuring compliance with Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-3 requirements. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to expand their expertise in cryptography, cybersecurity frameworks, secure software development, and federal security standards while working with cutting-edge technologies.


Responsibilities of the FIPS Certification Engineer:

  • Support FIPS 140-3 certification projects by performing compliance assessments, evidence collection, and documentation activities.
  • Execute validation testing procedures, review cryptographic implementations, and document findings and remediation efforts.
  • Coordinate with accredited testing laboratories throughout pre-validation, testing, and certification processes.
  • Assist with security reviews involving cryptographic modules, key management practices, and secure communication protocols.
  • Track certification milestones, compliance deliverables, and process improvements to enhance certification readiness.

Qualifications of the FIPS Certification Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline.
  • 0-5 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, cryptography, networking, secure software development, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with FIPS 140-3, NIST SP 800 Series, Common Criteria, and other security compliance frameworks.
  • Understanding of software development principles, cybersecurity concepts, and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience through coursework, internships, projects, or employment involving cybersecurity, cryptography, networking, or secure software development; exposure to Python, Java, C, or C++ is a plus.

Compensation for the FIPS Certification Engineer includes:

  • Salary range: $90,000-$110,000
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, retirement savings plans, and paid time off.
