Piper Companies is seeking a Software Engineer in Test (SET) to support the development and expansion of enterprise test automation capabilities for a growing technology platform. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining automated testing solutions while driving quality throughout the software development lifecycle. The Software Engineer in Test will play a key role in establishing automation best practices, supporting framework enhancements, and ensuring application reliability through scalable test solutions.


This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who has successfully built a test automation framework from scratch and enjoys creating scalable quality engineering solutions in a collaborative development environment.


Responsibilities of the Software Engineer in Test:

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks and supporting infrastructure.
  • Support the continued enhancement and expansion of existing automation frameworks.
  • Create automated tests for web applications, APIs, and backend services.
  • Build and execute regression, integration, functional, and end-to-end test suites.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and product teams to ensure quality throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Identify, document, troubleshoot, and drive resolution of software defects.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve release quality and deployment confidence.
  • Participate in application design and architecture discussions to improve testability.
  • Develop quality metrics and reporting to measure application stability and performance.
  • Promote test automation best practices and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering teams.

Qualifications of the Software Engineer in Test:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science required.
  • Experience as a Software Engineer in Test (SET), SDET, Test Automation Engineer, or similar role.
  • Demonstrated experience building a test automation framework from scratch.
  • Strong programming experience in one or more modern development languages.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated testing solutions for web applications and APIs.
  • Knowledge of software testing methodologies, automation strategies, and quality engineering best practices.
  • Experience with CI/CD environments and automated build pipelines.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within Agile software development teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with modern automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress.
  • Experience testing cloud-based or distributed applications.
  • Knowledge of API testing and service validation methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar DevOps platforms.
  • Experience working in high-growth or enterprise software environments.

Compensation & Benefits for the Software Engineer in Test:

  • Base salary: $115,000 - $130,000 annually
