Piper Companies is seeking a Backend Engineer to join a leading networking and infrastructure technology organization. The Backend Engineer will contribute to the development of an advanced network simulation platform, building backend services that orchestrate virtualized network environments and enable customers to design, test, and automate complex network topologies. This Backend Engineer role is a long term contract opportunity and allows you to work remote in EST hour.
Responsibilities of the Backend Engineer:
- Develop and maintain backend services that orchestrate virtualized network nodes, containers, and simulation environments using technologies such as QEMU and libvirt.
- Design and build scalable RESTful APIs that enable users to deploy, manage, and interact with complex network topologies.
- Support network automation and infrastructure-as-code workflows while optimizing platform performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with software engineers, QA teams, and network architects to deliver new features and enhance the overall user experience.
Requirements of the Backend Engineer:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field with 4+ years of backend software development experience.
- Strong programming experience in Python and/or Go, along with experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Linux systems programming, virtualization technologies (QEMU, libvirt, Docker, Kubernetes), and networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
- Experience with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and modern software development practices.
- Preferred experience with network simulation platforms (CML, GNS3, EVE-NG), network automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, Netmiko, NAPALM), SDN concepts, cloud-native development, microservices, and CCNA certification.
Compensation for the Backend Engineer:
- $100,000 - $140,000
