Piper Companies is seeking a UI Layer Engineer to join a leading networking and network simulation technology organization. The UI Layer Engineer will play a key role in developing intuitive, high-performance web interfaces that allow users to design, visualize, and manage complex virtual network topologies. The UI Layer Engineer role is a long term contract opportunity and allows you to work remotely in EST time zone.
Responsibilities of the UI Layer Engineer:
- Develop and maintain interactive topology visualization tools, including drag-and-drop functionality, node connectivity, and real-time network rendering capabilities.
- Optimize frontend performance to support large-scale network environments with hundreds of nodes while maintaining responsiveness and usability.
- Architect state management solutions and integrate real-time data streams, APIs, and telemetry updates to keep the user interface synchronized with simulation activity.
- Collaborate with UX designers and backend engineers to deliver accessible, modern user experiences and reusable component libraries tailored to networking workflows.
Requirements of the UI Layer Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in modern frontend development with expert-level proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
- Strong experience with React, Vue.js, Angular, or similar frontend frameworks.
- Experience with visualization technologies such as SVG, Canvas API, D3.js, Cytoscape.js, JointJS, or comparable libraries.
- Solid understanding of asynchronous programming, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, and frontend state management tools including Redux, Pinia, or NgRx.
- Preferred experience with TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, CSS-in-JS solutions, UI testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Playwright), and performance profiling tools such as Chrome DevTools and Lighthouse.
- Experience building complex dashboard-style applications, contributing to open-source projects, possessing a CCNA certification, or working within Cisco environments is a plus.
Compensation for the UI Layer Engineer:
- $100,000 - $140,000
