Piper Companies is seeking a Backend Engineer to join an innovative organization in the network simulation and virtualization space for a fully remote contract opportunity. The Backend Engineer will play a key role in building and enhancing the backend infrastructure that powers large-scale network emulation environments. This Backend Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable services, automation capabilities, and API-driven solutions supporting advanced networking use cases.
Responsibilities for the Backend Engineer include:
· Build and support backend applications responsible for provisioning, managing, and orchestrating virtual networking environments utilizing virtualization and container technologies.
· Develop and maintain high-performing RESTful APIs that enable customers to create, control, and automate complex network simulation scenarios.
· Integrate backend services with underlying infrastructure platforms to optimize system performance, scalability, and resource allocation.
· Create automation-focused tools that support infrastructure-as-code workflows and network validation processes.
· Improve platform reliability, responsiveness, and scalability while partnering with engineering and quality teams to deliver new capabilities.
Qualifications for the Backend Engineer include:
· 4+ years of professional backend software development experience.
· Strong programming experience with Python and/or Go.
· Hands-on experience with Linux systems, virtualization platforms, containers, or orchestration technologies.
· Understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, switching, routing, and network protocols.
· Experience designing, developing, and supporting RESTful API solutions.
· Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Netmiko, or similar technologies preferred.
· Familiarity with CI/CD processes, automated testing frameworks, GitHub, Jenkins, and pytest preferred.
· Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, microservices, SDN concepts, or network simulation platforms is a plus.
· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
· CCNA certification preferred.
Compensation for the Backend Engineer:
· Pay Rate: $56.50 - $66.50/hr
· Fully Remote Contract Opportunity
