FIPS Certification Engineer

Piper Companies is hiring a FIPS Certification Engineer for a leading technology organization. The FIPS Certification Engineer will support certification, testing, and compliance efforts for networking and security products subject to Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) requirements. The FIPS Certification Engineer will work alongside senior engineers to help ensure products meet FIPS 140-3 standards while gaining hands-on experience in cybersecurity, cryptography, secure software development, and regulatory compliance. The FIPS Certification Engineer is a long-term remote contract opportunity with strong potential for conversion to a permanent position after 2-3 years.

Responsibilities of the FIPS Certification Engineer:

• Support FIPS 140-3 compliance and certification initiatives by assisting with testing, validation activities, and compliance assessments

• Collect, organize, and maintain certification documentation, technical evidence, validation artifacts, and compliance deliverables

• Execute compliance and validation test procedures while documenting results and tracking remediation activities

• Assist with reviews of product configurations, cryptographic implementations, security features, and technical documentation

• Collaborate with engineering teams, product security teams, program managers, and accredited testing laboratories throughout certification efforts

• Monitor certification milestones, maintain awareness of evolving NIST and FIPS standards, and contribute to process improvement initiatives

Requirements of the FIPS Certification Engineer:

• 0-3 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, software engineering, networking, cryptography, compliance, or a related technical field

• Familiarity with FIPS 140-3, NIST SP 800 Series publications, Common Criteria, or other security certification frameworks

• Understanding of secure software development principles, cybersecurity concepts, and security architecture fundamentals

• Experience working with Linux operating systems and command-line tools

• Exposure to programming or scripting languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar technologies preferred

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline

Compensation for the FIPS Certification Engineer:

• $95,000 - $120,000 annually, based on experience
