Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to join a leading organization at the forefront of cybersecurity compliance and software innovation. This contract opportunity, based in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC area, will lead quality strategy, test automation, and validation efforts for a platform that provides real-time visibility into Common Criteria (CC) certification programs and projects. As the lead quality engineering resource, the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET) will ensure the reliability, scalability, and accuracy of critical compliance and reporting systems. This long-term contract opportunity offers strong potential for extension and full-time conversion and follows a hybrid schedule, requiring onsite attendance 1-2 days per week at the RTP office. Standard working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET.
Responsibilities of the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET):
- Design, implement, and own the overall test strategy for a Common Criteria program management platform.
- Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks for web applications, APIs, backend services, and data pipelines.
- Build automated validation solutions for project status updates, workflow automation, milestone tracking, dashboard reporting, notifications, and system integrations.
- Create and execute automated regression, integration, functional, and end-to-end test suites.
- Validate integrations with Jira, Azure DevOps, SharePoint, Confluence, GitHub, and other project management platforms.
- Develop performance, scalability, reliability, and data integrity testing strategies.
- Partner with software engineering teams to establish quality gates and automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and document defects while driving issues through resolution.
- Ensure testing addresses security, auditability, compliance, and data accuracy requirements.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews to improve application quality and testability.
- Contribute to monitoring, observability, and quality metrics initiatives.
- Mentor development teams on test automation best practices and quality engineering principles.
Qualifications for the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET):
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), Quality Engineering, or Software Testing roles.
- Strong programming experience with Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, or similar languages.
- Proven experience creating and implementing automated testing frameworks from scratch.
- Experience serving as a lead or primary quality engineering resource on a project.
- Strong understanding of API testing, service validation, and enterprise application testing.
- Experience testing distributed systems, web applications, and complex business workflows.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, automated quality pipelines, and Agile development methodologies.
- Excellent troubleshooting, debugging, and analytical skills.
- Authorized to work for any employer in the US
- Must be local to the RTP, NC area.

Compensation for the Senior Software Engineer in Test (SDET):
- Salary Range: $115,000 - $130,000/year, based on experience
