Piper Companies is seeking a Project Scheduler to join a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing organization supporting a large-scale capital expansion project in Clayton, NC. This is an onsite contract opportunity with an initial one-year term expected to extend into 2028, offering strong potential for additional extensions and possible long-term employment opportunities. The Project Scheduler will provide owner-side scheduling oversight and analysis for a $150M+ project currently in execution, partnering with project leadership, contractors, engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to drive schedule performance and project success.
Responsibilities of the Project Scheduler:
- Maintain the owner's integrated project schedule, incorporating contractor activities, owner responsibilities, key interfaces, and major project milestones
- Review contractor baseline schedules and routine schedule updates for logic, sequencing, durations, constraints, and contractual milestone alignment
- Validate reported progress with project management and field teams, assessing forecast completion dates and remaining durations for accuracy
- Analyze critical and near-critical paths, float consumption, schedule performance, milestone movement, and emerging delays
- Coordinate schedule interfaces across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup functions
- Evaluate schedule impacts associated with project changes, constraints, and risks while developing scenario analyses to support key project decisions
- Review contractor recovery plans and monitor mitigation strategies to improve schedule performance
- Prepare executive-level schedule reports, look-ahead schedules, and risk assessments that clearly communicate project status and required actions
- Maintain schedule baselines, update records, and supporting documentation to ensure traceability of schedule changes and delays
Qualifications for the Project Scheduler:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical discipline
- Experience supporting scheduling activities on large capital construction projects during execution, preferably representing the owner or owner's project team
- Strong knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, progress measurement, schedule forecasting, float analysis, and schedule risk management
- Experience reviewing contractor schedules and challenging assumptions through data-driven analysis and collaboration
- Proficiency with project scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling platforms
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across contractors, engineering teams, construction management, and project stakeholders
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical, life sciences, industrial manufacturing, energy, or other large-scale capital projects preferred
Compensation for the Project Scheduler:
- Pay Rate: $60-$80/hour
- Expected contract duration through 2028 with strong potential for extensions
