Systems Security Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Systems Security Engineer for a leading technology organization. The Systems Security Engineer role is a fully remote position; however, candidates must be located and available to work within the Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Pacific Standard Time (PST) time zones. The Systems Security Engineer will design, implement, and maintain secure enterprise infrastructure while supporting security operations, threat detection, and incident response initiatives. An ideal candidate for the Systems Security Engineer role possesses a strong foundation in systems administration, networking, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure, combined with deep expertise in cybersecurity engineering and security operations.

Responsibilities of the Systems Security Engineer:

• Design, implement, and maintain security controls across enterprise systems, networks, cloud environments, and virtualized infrastructure.

• Engineer and optimize threat detection, monitoring, and alerting capabilities utilizing SIEM, EDR, and security automation platforms.

• Support incident response and threat investigation efforts by analyzing security events, identifying root causes, and implementing remediation measures.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to enhance security architecture, harden systems, and reduce organizational risk.

• Evaluate emerging security technologies and recommend improvements to strengthen the organization's overall security posture.

Qualifications of the Systems Security Engineer:

• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure security, or security engineering roles.

• Strong foundational knowledge of Windows and Linux systems administration, networking, virtualization, and enterprise infrastructure.

• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms, EDR solutions, vulnerability management tools, and security monitoring technologies.

• Experience supporting cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP and securing cloud-native services.

• Strong understanding of security frameworks, incident response processes, threat detection methodologies, and cybersecurity best practices.

Compensation for the Systems Security Engineer includes:

• Salary range: $125,000 – $175,000 depending on experience
