Senior Database Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Database Engineer for a leading technology organization. The Senior Database Engineer role is a fully remote position focused on PostgreSQL database administration, security, and data engineering initiatives. An ideal candidate for the Senior Database Engineer role is an experienced database professional with deep PostgreSQL expertise, strong Linux administration skills, and experience building scalable ETL pipelines and infrastructure automation solutions.

Responsibilities of the Senior Database Engineer:

• Administer, maintain, monitor, and optimize PostgreSQL databases to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.

• Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines that support data integration, transformation, and reporting requirements.

• Implement database security best practices, including access controls, auditing, backup strategies, and disaster recovery planning.

• Troubleshoot database and Linux system issues, performing performance tuning across database and infrastructure environments.

• Leverage infrastructure-as-code and automation tools such as Terraform or Ansible to streamline database deployment and management processes.

Qualifications of the Senior Database Engineer:

• 5+ years of experience administering and supporting PostgreSQL databases in production environments.

• Strong Linux systems administration experience with expertise in performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

• Hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting ETL pipelines and data integration solutions.

• Experience with automation and infrastructure management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies.

• Knowledge of database security, backup/recovery strategies, replication, and high-availability architectures.

Compensation for the Senior Database Engineer includes:

• Salary range: $140,000 – $170,000 annually depending on experience
