JOB DESCRIPTION

Piper Clinical Solutions is seeking a motivated Clinical Research Medical Coder to support a wide range of clinical research studies in Philadelphia, PA.  The Medical Coder will assist with the review of technical and professional charges related to clinical research.

 

Responsibilities for the Clinical Research Medical Coder:

 

  • Review clinical guidelines and CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) regulations to determine the correct payer for services required through the duration of clinical trials
  • Ensure all federal regulations and internal policy & procedures are adhered to with respect to billing and coding for clinical research
  • Ensure accurate and timely research billing review of all hospital and professional charges in accordance with coverage analysis
  • Review all medical coding related to hospital and professional services to ensure all codes are accurate and complete (CPT & ICD-10)
  • Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) and EPIC to pull specific study participant medical records
  • Review study participant medical records to confirm correct medical coding usage for services provided
  • Collaborate with clinical research teams for clarification of clinical data when identifying conflicting or ambiguous information and missing medical documentation
  • Communicate with responsible parties regarding any issues concerning clinical research billing
  • Utilize hospital and physician services to perform research billing corrections
  • Point of contact for any clinical research billing inquiries from internal business partners and responsible for escalating issues to supervisors
  • Work with Clinical Research Administrators to process internal institutional transfers for sponsored study-related hospital and professional charges

 

Requirements for the Clinical Research Medical Coder:

 

  • 1+ year of medical coding experience (research medical coding experience preferred)
  • Experience with CPT & ICD-10 coding
  • Experience with EPIC or related EMR system
  • CPC & CCS coding certification required
  • Minimum of GED or High School diploma

 

Compensation for the Clinical Research Medical Coder:

 

  • Salary range from $40,000 to $55,000 based on meeting of requirements
  • Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision Insurance, 401K
