JOB DESCRIPTION

Piper Companies is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer for a long-term opportunity supporting our client in Laurel, MD. As the Sr. Systems Engineer, you will be stepping into an established IT support environment where you can leverage your expertise – raising the bar in IT Service Delivery excellence. You will be sought after as the Subject Matter Expert for this site where you can collaborate with other System Engineers with innovative ideas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineers, installs, configures, updates, and maintains Microsoft (MS) Windows servers, Citrix XenApp, VMWare in a fast-paced, complex environment
  • Designs and plans complex hardware deployments, software upgrades, and significant operational initiatives, including migrations of end user workstations from Windows 7 to Windows 10
  • Provides advanced level configuration, management, and troubleshooting of all components of the Windows operating system and application deployment platform using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (MS SCCM)
  • Creates and distribute native Windows Installer (MSI) based application packages throughout a MS SCCM infrastructure spanning multiple sites and physical locations
  • Designs and implements SCCM solutions related to Windows server and/or desktop and laptop systems
  • Prepares, distributes, and deploys critical, security, and otherwise required patches of all managed libraries using tools such as Windows Server Update Services and MS SCCM
  • Performs Tier-3 Incident, Request, Change and Problem Management via ServiceNow to keep track of tasks, escalations, issues, and resolutions
  • Addresses and rectifies server problems, works with Microsoft or other vendors as necessary
  • Maintains and upgrades automated scripts for application products to facilitate operational tasks
  • Monitors system capacity (CPU, memory, ports, disk space, etc.) and takes appropriate action to report and correct any issues
  • Coordinates with Project Management, Security, Asset Management, and Service Desk teams as necessary for problem support and resolution
  • Manages and executes various enterprise IT projects from requirements to implementation
  • Tests and deploys software updates and security patches to core infrastructure and servers
  • Monitors faults, performance, and capacity issues; prepares remediation reports and documentation
  • Researches, identifies, and analyzes trends of utilization and errors to improve availability and performance
  • Conducts gap analyses as needed, and provides results and recommendations to management for review
  • Installs rack-mounted IT equipment, power, and network cabling
  • Develops project documentation such as project plan, high-level design, detailed design, requirements analysis and implementation plans
  • Develops training documentation and Standard Operating Procedures for Systems Administrators
  • Modifies and manages Active Directory components for enterprise LAN/WAN users
  • Manages domain name services (DNS), directory services, and dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP)
  • Provides support as needed to Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical colleagues
  • Monitors the ticket queue, assigns tickets, verifies ticket completion

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience managing an enterprise environment with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 10/7
  • Experience with Active Directory Enterprise Architecture and Group Policy Best Practices
  • Experience with DNS/DHCP/DFSR
  • Experience with Remote Support Technologies
  • Experience planning and conducting end user workstation migrations from Windows 7 to 10
  • Experience with domain migration initiatives, including file share and printer migrations
  • Experience with configuring images and pushing out patches using SCCM 2012

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and skills with one or more of the following: MS Clustering, Citrix/Remote Desktop Services, Active Directory Certificate Services, VMware, SAN Provisioning, NIST/CIS Security Benchmarks, and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  • ITIL v3 Foundations certification
  • MCP or MCSE or MCSA: Sever 2012 certification
  • Any certification related to MS SCCM (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager)

 

Salary/Benefits:

  • Salary range is contingent on experience with a targeted range of $130-150k/yr
